Proposals for Flower/Bee Corridor Through Hitchin

Wildflowers are great for biodiversity, especially pollinators like bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other insects. They can also look good and support our wellbeing, giving us that calming feeling often associated with getting outside and enjoying nature.

In partnership with local community groups, schools and national trusts local Councillors are attempting to create an ‘environmental corridor’ running from Priory fields in the South of Hitchin to Hitchin Lavender in the North. With the support of all of these groups we hope each year to grow a number of pieces of land locally to grow wildflowers, or to allow grass to grow a little taller, to reap these benefits – from private back gardens to roadside verges, and areas of our public green spaces. We hope this will not only have a positive impact on our environment and wellbeing but also, like Hitchin Lavender be a source of international pride for our beautiful town
